Polytech'Nice - Sophia is a Graduate Engineering School within the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis. It was created in 2004 from the merger of two existing engineering schools.
Its status as an Engineering School within a University offers a number of major advantages.
Polytech'Nice - Sophia benefits from a scientific environment and from all the campus facilities (university restaurants, halls of residence, sports facilities and cultural activities). With more than 17 000 students, 8 000 graduates a year and near 30 research laboratories, most of which work under the label of the great French research organisations (CNRS, INSERM, INRA, INRIA), the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis (UNS) is one of the main France's scientific universities.
Polytech'Nice - Sophia depends on the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and is authorised by the "Commission des Titres d'Ingénieurs" (CTI) to issue and award the "Diplôme d'ingénieur" (equivalent to Master's degree in Engineering) after 5 years of studies, following the obtaining of the "Baccalauréat" (secondary school diploma).
Polytech'Nice - Sophia is a member of the French "Conférence des Grandes Écoles" which awards engineering schools with a label.
The School's main characteristics :
- A medium-sized school with about 200 graduates per year
- A highly selective admission process
- Various backgrounds of the teaching staff : (lecturers, researchers, experts, guests and visiting lecturers coming from industry, consultancies...)
- Integrated and flexible education methods (lectures, small class work, case study, individual or team projects, growing use of new methods and tools, information and communication technologies...)
- Close links with industries
- Research activities (final year projects, laboratories...)
- International co-operations
The five-year engineering programme starts at the end of the secondary education
- the first 2 years of study (preparatory classes or two first years of bachelor's studies in general science and technology) are taught in different institutions.
- Competitive entrance examination
- 3 years at Polytech'Nice - Sophia leading to the award of the "diplôme d'ingénieur" (equivalent to master's degree). (1st year at Polytech'Nice - Sophia = 3rd year of engineering studies).
Applications for entry into Polytech'Nice Sophia after two or three years of undergraduate studies (Bachelor)
-
A common Polytech Group competitive examination (written exams and interview) for students who have completed two years' study in preparatory classes
-
A common Polytech Group competitive examination (based on academic record and interview) :
- for students who have completed the first two years of a "Licence" (bachelor's programme) in science and technology or having passed the bachelor's examination (after 3 years of undergraduate studies).
- for students who have completed the 1st year of a master's degree in science and who may be admitted to the 4th year of an engineering course,

Applications for entry into Polytech'Nice - Sophia after the "Baccalauréat"or equivalent diploma abroad
-
The "Parcours des écoles d'ingénieurs Polytech" (PeiP) is a specific path proposed to students holding a "Baccalauréat" degree or equivalent.
- The "PeiP" offers preparatory and reinforced courses during the first two years of undergraduate studies in science and technology at the University (Licence /Bachelor) together with an individualised mentoring in order to enable students to join one of the 11 Polytech school 3-year engineering programmes after this two-year preparatory cycle. The students who attend the PeiP programme become acquainted with Polytech'Nice Sophia immediately after the "Baccalauréat" or equivalent.(recruitment based on application and interview)
