Projet de 5ème année

During the first semester, the 5th year and Master students must realize a final project (Projet de fin d'études or PFE). The project duration is about 4 months, starting in October and ending at the beginning of March. It is concluded by an oral defense and a written report.

This pedagogical project completes the regular courses given at Polytech. Thus, contrary to internships, in such a project the student is not compelled to "produce" some deliverable but rather to acquire knowledge and know-how. This is a reason why these projects are not supposed to be remunerated, although it it still possible for a company to offer some reward in case of outstanding results.

Note that there are two sorts of PFEs.

• Engineering PFE, where 3 students work together on the same topic,
• Research PFE, whith only one student working on the topic..

The whole information on these projects reside in a Web site dedicated to PFE's. There, you can find

• information on PFE topics and progression (including evaluation and defense),
• the agenda for the current year,
• the list of proposed topics,
• the possibility for faculty staff, researchers, or industry people to propose their own project topics,
• the possibility for students to choose topics from the list and to consult or modify these choices.
